Historic Environment Scotland
Retail Interior Design, Manufacture & Installation.

Project Overview
Scotland’s national building conservation centre, The Engine Shed, is run by Historic Environment Scotland. Ripple was brought in to design, manufacture and install a retail space that reflects the site’s industrial past while supporting its educational mission.
Project Details
the challenge
Set in a restored MOD railway building, the retail space had to strike a careful balance: a modern intervention that respected the heritage fabric of the building. The design needed to reflect industrial roots while feeling clean, contemporary, and functional for daily use.

Technical Development & Detailing
Ripple took the approved architectural concepts and developed every detail into manufacturable, functional components built for public interaction.

Precision Build & Installation
All components were manufactured in-house and installed on-site, with Ripple’s design team overseeing every detail for accuracy and consistency.
Installation & Launch
Ripple managed the full development and fit-out process, ensuring every element respected the historical context while enabling modern use.
The Engine Shed’s retail area now supports visitor engagement with a clean, industrial aesthetic that honours its conservation roots. Ripple continues to work with public and heritage sectors where story and space meet.
